Read this timely post in The Nature of Cities: “Celebrating the Wilderness Act of 1964 – and Celebrating Wildness in Cities,” by Tim Beatley, the Teresa Heinz Professor of Sustainable Communities, in the Department of Urban and Environmental Planning, at the University of Virginia, and author or co-author of more than 15 books, including Green Urbanism, Native to Nowhere, Ethical Land Use, and Biophilic Cities. We are honored to be referenced in this essay!

BAT CLOUD: ROTTERDAM

Bat Cloud: Rotterdam — designed and installed for the 2014 International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam — was adopted by the city’s Pompenburg Park and reinstalled under a pedestrian bridge at the park’s PeaceGarden site. It was a pleasure to speak at the Worldwide Storefront Circus for Construction event, “Buffalo’s Radical Re-imaging,” and an honor to be among a group of awesome presenters: Sean Burkholder, Chris Romano + Nick Bruscia, and Sean Wrafter. Thanks to Silo City for hosting a great crowd! And a very big Thank You and Congratulations to the Circus Team (Ann Lui, Ashley Mendelsohn, Ben Widger, Craig Reschke, Larisa Ovalles, and Buffalo correspondent Trenton Van Epps) for pulling off an amazing feat! 2014 AIA NYS CONFERENCE: NEW PRACTICE, NEW DESIGN

Joyce Hwang, Courtney Creenan-Chorley, Peter Schmidt and Chris Romano presented “Cross-Profession Practices: Mixing-up the Academy with Industry,” a discussion that centered on models of research and practice that have emerged from collaborative work between the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning, Rigidized Metals, and Boston Valley Terra Cotta. Joyce also participated as the representative for UB SUNY on the “NYS Schools of Architecture Roundtable,” together with Lance Jay Brown (CCNY), Dennis Andrejko (RIT), Frank Mruk (NYIT), and Mark Mistur (RPI). Congratulations to AIA New York State for putting together an inspiring set of keynotes, seminars, and events in Saratoga Springs!
